The All Progressives Congress has reaffirmed its commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, assuring that victory is certain, even as former presidential candidate Peter Obi dumped the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress ahead of the next race.
Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, declared his defection to the ADC on Wednesday at Nike Lake Resort in Enugu, calling on Nigerians and opposition groups to come together under a broad national coalition to “rescue Nigeria from poverty, disunity and democratic decline.”
Reacting, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru described Obi as an inconsistent politician whose actions should not be taken seriously.
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Basiru stated that Obi and his colleagues in the ADC have been defeated in the past and that President Tinubu would defeat them again in 2027.
He stated, “We don’t have anything to say about him. The only thing we can say is that he’s an inconsistent and dishonest politician. So we can’t waste our time responding to what he wants to say. When the election comes, let him come and present whatever he has for the Nigerian people.
“Beyond telling lies, I think beyond lying from both sides of his mouth, he has no reputation for anybody to take whatever he says seriously. But you can see that he is not consistent; he is a dishonest and inconsistent person, moving from one party to another for personal ambitions.
“In any event, these people, Obi and those he went to join in the ADC, have been defeated in the past, and your party will defeat them again. President Bola Tinubu will defeat them again in 2027. All so-called micro-alignments do not affect our political party.
