The crash, which involved four trailers, four Micra cars, and one Toyota Camry, unfolded when a trailer attempting to reverse out of an abandoned filling station was struck by another trailer coming from behind. The impact triggered a pile-up, as three additional trailers following closely collided in quick succession.
Eyewitnesses reported that the trailers ploughed into several vehicles, including four Micra taxis and a Toyota Camry. One of the Micra cars was completely crushed, killing the driver and three passengers instantly. Among the victims were a couple who had boarded the ill-fated Micra just a bus stop away at Sanyo. The wife died on the spot, while the husband, seated in the front passenger seat, survived with minor injuries.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) responded promptly to the scene, evacuating the deceased and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Over 10 people have reportedly been feared dead in the accident that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Oyo State on Tuesday morning.
The road mishap involved three Nissan Micra taxi cabs and three articulated vehicles.
