Ilorin, Nigeria — The Kwara State Government has initiated an investigation into the unexpected flooding that affected several rice farmlands in Shonga, Edu Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by Rafiu Ajakaye, spokesperson for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, it was announced that a committee has been established to uncover the cause of the flooding and propose solutions to prevent a recurrence.
The committee is tasked with conducting a fact-finding mission to the affected areas. Additionally, the team will deliver a condolence message to the Emir of Shonga, Dr. Haliru Yahyah, and the victims impacted by the disaster.
The committee, chaired by Princess Bukola Babalola, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, includes key officials such as the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas; Commissioner for Environment, Hajiya Nafisat Musa Buge; Special Adviser on Special Duties; and the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor, Alhaji Muhyideen Aliu, among others.
The government expressed its solidarity with the Shonga community and assured the public of its commitment to addressing the flooding and supporting affected farmers. Further updates on the committee’s findings are expected in the coming weeks.
