Twenty-one passengers have lost their lives in a fatal road accident involving a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and a heavy-duty DAF truck along the Zaria-Kano highway.
The crash occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Sunday and was confirmed in a statement by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
According to preliminary investigations conducted by the FRSC rescue and crash investigation team, the tragedy was caused by a route violation committed by the driver of the Toyota Hiace bus.
“Regrettably, out of the 24 people involved in the crash, a total of 21 persons—comprising 19 male adults and two female adults — were killed in the crash, while the remaining three were rescued with injuries,” Ogungbemide said.
He stated that the victims’ remains had been deposited at Nasarawa Hospital in Kano, while FRSC rescue teams and other emergency responders had cleared the road, restoring normal traffic flow.
