Why June salaries were delayed for some civil servants – AGF

2 min read

The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) has responded to growing concerns over the delay in June salary payments, especially among civil servants whose salary accounts are domiciled with Zenith Bank.

In an official statement issued by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations, the OAGF revealed that the delay was caused by a technical network issue on the part of Zenith Bank, which disrupted salary disbursements across several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“Following a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the salary payments were affected due to a technical glitch in the bank’s network,” Mokwa stated.

The OAGF expressed deep regret over the inconvenience the delay has caused federal workers and assured that urgent efforts are underway to resolve the issue. According to the statement, the office is collaborating with relevant service providers and stakeholders to ensure that all failed transactions are reprocessed without further delay.

“We understand the anxiety and frustration this has caused, particularly at a time when timely salary payments are critical to meeting essential needs and responsibilities,” Mokwa said.

He appealed for calm and patience from the affected civil servants, reaffirming that no effort will be spared in ensuring that every affected worker receives their rightful salary as soon as possible.

“Concrete steps have already been taken to isolate the problem, and arrangements are ongoing to reprocess all failed payments in the shortest possible time,” he added.

Beyond the June salary payments, the OAGF also reaffirmed its commitment to settling the outstanding four-month arrears of the N35,000 wage award granted to government workers. Mokwa emphasized that the welfare of federal employees remains a top priority for the office.

“The OAGF remains fully committed to transparency, accountability, and efficiency in payroll operations. We are open to continuous engagement with all stakeholders to improve our service delivery,” he said.

He concluded by thanking civil servants for their understanding and patience during the disruption, assuring them of the government’s dedication to ensuring smooth and timely salary payments going forward.
