The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested an Abuja resident over the death of a three-year-old boy who fell into an uncovered septic tank.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday in a residential compound where the child was reportedly playing before slipping into the open soakaway. Police said the tank, which was allegedly left uncovered by the suspect despite repeated warnings from neighbours, had been a known safety concern in the area.
In a statement issued on Friday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the uncovered soak away had long posed a danger to residents in the area, and several warnings and pleas were reportedly made by concerned neighbours to the suspect, who failed to take necessary action.”
