Lagos Doctors Begin 3-Day Warning Strike Over Salary Deductions

1 min read

Medical doctors employed by the Lagos State Government have begun a three-day warning strike today, Monday, July 28, over what they describe as unfair salary deductions.

The Medical Guild Chairman, Dr. Sa’eid Olugbogi, said the issue began in April 2025 when deductions were made without notice. Although the cuts were initially reversed following talks, the government reportedly resumed deductions in July—contradicting earlier agreements.

While many doctors had initially called for an immediate and indefinite strike, the Guild leadership opted for a more measured approach through diplomacy and advocacy. But with no resolution in sight and deductions reinstated, the Guild said it had no choice but to embark on the warning strike, which is expected to last until Thursday, July 31.
