Zelensky Ready to Resign for Ukraine’s NATO Membership

Kyiv, Ukraine  —  Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared his willingness to step down if it guarantees Ukraine’s accession to NATO.

Zelensky made this statement on Sunday amid ongoing discussions on Ukraine’s NATO bid, emphasizing the strategic importance of alliance membership in securing the country’s future.

Facing mounting criticism from the new U.S. administration, Zelensky expressed his desire to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump before Trump’s anticipated discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We need clarity on Ukraine’s NATO membership,” Zelensky stated. “If my resignation would secure this vital step, I am ready to make that sacrifice.”

Despite Ukraine’s persistent calls for NATO admission, the alliance has hesitated to extend a definitive commitment, citing geopolitical complexities.

Zelensky’s remarks come amid heightened diplomatic tensions, following last week’s high-level U.S.-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia, the first such engagement in three years.

The Ukrainian leader has repeatedly argued that NATO membership is essential to ending the ongoing conflict and securing long-term peace in the region.

The statement concluded with Zelensky reaffirming his commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and urging Western allies to take decisive action.
