President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on traditional institutions in Nasarawa State to continue playing key roles in fostering peace and unity across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas, stressing that such harmony is crucial for rapid growth and development.
The President gave the charge in Lafia, the state capital, on Saturday, during the turbaning ceremony of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, who was honoured with the traditional title of Magajin Dangin of Lafian Bare-bari by the Lafia Emirate Council.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among the state’s diverse socio-cultural groups to enjoy the dividends of democracy at the grassroots.
“Senator Wadada should leverage his new traditional title to promote peace-building within the Lafia Emirate and other traditional institutions to foster sustainable development across Nasarawa,” Tinubu urged.
Senator Barau Jibrin congratulated Senator Wadada, describing him as a man of honour, integrity, and compassion who consistently supports the underprivileged in the state.
Akpabio also commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his visible development efforts across Nasarawa, urging him to continue delivering good governance to uplift the standard of living for all residents. In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Sule, who served as the Chief Host of the occasion, expressed appreciation to the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (rtd), for bestowing traditional titles on Senator Wadada and other deserving individuals.
The governor highlighted the state’s current status as the most peaceful in Nigeria, attributing this success to the inclusive and visionary leadership of the Emir of Lafia, which has unified people of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
