NDLEA Arrests 75-Year-Old, Destroys 178,000kg Cannabis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 75-year-old man, Uchelue Ikechukwu, and several others in nationwide raids that also led to the destruction of 178,000kg of cannabis on a large farm in Taraba State.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Ikechukwu was caught with 26.7kg of skunk in Anambra, while six others were arrested in the state for dealing in opioids and cannabis. In Taraba, a 30-year-old farmer, Alfa Andrew, was arrested after operatives stormed his 71.5-hectare farm in Mayodoga forest, where the huge cannabis haul was destroyed.

Other seizures include 104,900 tramadol capsules hidden in a fuel tanker in Kaduna, ₦7.9m cash and thousands of pills from a major supplier in Borno, 250,000 exol-5 tablets in Kano, and the largest Loud and Colorado cannabis seizure in Ekiti State.

The NDLEA said the operations are part of its renewed efforts to dismantle drug cartels across Nigeria.
