Tinubu to address Nigerians on 65th Independence Day: Declares public holiday

President Bola Tinubu will deliver a nationwide broadcast on Wednesday, October 1, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the broadcast will go live at 7 a.m.

The statement is titled, “2025 Independence Anniversary: President Tinubu Addresses The Nation.” The statement added, “All television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets are urged to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the broadcast.”

This year’s broadcast is expected to touch on the administration’s progress in economic recovery, security operations, and ongoing infrastructure projects, while also reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and has since marked the date annually with official ceremonies, presidential speeches, and parades.
