Wike Reaffirms Rule of Law, Promises Respect for All Institutions

1 min read

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and promised to respect all government institutions, including the military.

Wike spoke to journalists in Abuja following a clash between FCTA officials and military personnel during enforcement of land regulations. He said the confrontation began after FCTA staff were allegedly attacked while inspecting a disputed site.

“As a Minister, I can’t sit in my office while those working with me are being attacked,” Wike said. “I only intervened to restore order and ensure that government directives were respected.”

He clarified that the land involved was allocated to Santos Estate Limited for park and recreational purposes, not residential development. Wike also cited a previous case with the Police, where he intervened to stop illegal construction under a power line.

The FCT Minister stressed that all agencies and citizens must operate within the law. “Our administration remains committed to fairness, order, and institutional respect in managing the capital’s development,” he added.
