President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed concern over the increasing number of graduates entering Nigeria’s labour market without adequate employability skills, urging universities to redesign curricula to focus more on job creation, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Speaking at the 36th Convocation Ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, the President stressed the need for universities to contribute more directly to national development through advanced research and stronger partnerships with industry.
Represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, Tinubu encouraged graduates to make use of emerging opportunities in technology, agriculture, and business to become self-reliant and productive contributors to the economy.
He noted that the government is committed to creating an enabling environment but said universities must also ensure their graduates leave school with relevant skills that match the demands of the modern workforce.
