The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, SAN, says the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System has effectively eliminated identity theft, multiple voting, and other fraudulent practices in Nigeria’s elections. Speaking at the 2025 Digital Nigeria International Conference in Abuja, he described BVAS as a major milestone that has strengthened electoral integrity and transparency.
Represented by National Commissioner May Agbamuche-Mbu, Amupitan said BVAS now serves as a reliable and “foolproof system” for voter authentication and has fundamentally changed Nigeria’s democratic process. He credited the technology with restoring public confidence in the credibility of election results.
He also emphasized that the Commission will not revert to manual election procedures, insisting that such methods are prone to manipulation and open to interference from political interests.
