NANS Raises Alarm Over Escalating School Attacks

1 min read

The National Association of Nigerian Students has expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity across the country, warning that repeated attacks on schools are jeopardising the future of young Nigerians and the stability of the education system. The alarm follows a string of violent incidents, including Monday’s abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, where the school’s vice-principal was also killed.

In a statement released on Friday, NANS National PRO, Adeyemi Ajasa, described the situation as alarming and said the attacks appear to be coordinated efforts aimed at disrupting education and creating widespread displacement. The association noted that many students now face the difficult dilemma of risking their safety to remain in school or abandoning their education entirely.

NANS called on the Federal Government to move beyond reactive responses and adopt a more strategic and sustained approach to securing learning environments. It urged security agencies to prioritise intelligence-driven operations and ensure schools are protected from further attacks.
