Atiku Condemns Abduction of Niger Schoolchildren, Calls for Emergency Action
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the abduction of students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, describing the incident as deeply distressing and unacceptable. The attack, which has sparked fresh public concern over rising insecurity, drew widespread reactions after reports surfaced on Friday.
Reacting via his X handle, Atiku questioned how many more lives must be disrupted before firm measures are taken to halt the increasing wave of kidnappings and violent crimes across the country. He expressed concern that such attacks continue to occur despite repeated calls for stronger security intervention.
Atiku urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity and tackle the growing threat with the seriousness it requires. He stressed that Nigeria cannot continue to allow such tragedies to repeat, insisting that urgent and decisive action is long overdue.
