The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has directed that all enforcement actions relating to the proposed ban on sachet alcohol products be suspended until further notice. The directive follows a communication from the House of Representatives Committee on Food and Drugs Administration and Control regarding the planned enforcement by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Terrence Kuanum, the OSGF said the correspondence from the House committee, dated November 13, 2025 and signed by its Deputy Chairman, Uchenna Okonkwo, is currently under review. The office noted that the decision falls within its statutory coordinating role as Chairman of the Cabinet Secretariat.
The OSGF assured Nigerians that legislative resolutions, economic implications, public health concerns and broader national interest considerations are being carefully examined. It added that the review is aimed at ensuring a balanced, lawful and well-coordinated outcome on the matter.
