Power supply was disrupted across the country on Monday following the collapse of Nigeria’s national electricity grid, resulting in a sharp drop in power generation.
Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that electricity generation fell drastically from 2,052.37 megawatts to just 139.92 megawatts between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., triggering widespread outages.
NISO disclosed that only three of the eleven electricity distribution companies were able to receive power during the period, with a combined load of 120 megawatts. Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company took 80 megawatts, while Abuja and Benin Distribution Companies received 20 megawatts each. All other DisCos, including Eko, Ikeja, Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt and Yola, recorded zero allocation.
