Morocco have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final after a 2-0 win over Cameroon at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Friday.

Brahim Diaz continued his red-hot tournament form with another goal, and was joined by Ismael Saibari on the scoresheet as Cameroon were dumped out of the tournament.

Wahid Regragui’s side are in the AFCON semi-final for the first time since 2004.

Diaz put Morocco in the lead on 26 minutes when he bundled home Ayoub El Kaabi’s header from a corner kick into the net at the back post for his fifth goal of the competition.

The hosts had to wait until the 74th minute to seal victory through Saibari’s well-hit low shot into the far corner following a free kick.

Morocco’s defence has only conceded once in the tournament, and they held on strong to deny Cameroon any opportunity, keeping a clean sheet as the team sealed victory to celebrations from the packed stadium.

Victory is also Morocco’s third consecutive win over Cameroon, as they advanced into their sixth AFCON semi-finals, and are two matches away from a second AFCON trophy since their first in 1976.

The Atlas Lions will face either Algeria or Nigeria in the last-four stage.

Senegal also advanced into the semi-final stage following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Mali earlier in the day.

Iliman Ndiaye’s strike was the difference as the Teranga Lions are in the semi-final for the third time in four AFCON tournaments.
