Ex–Niger Delta militant urges Tinubu to reconcile Wike, Fubara

A former Niger Delta militant, Endurance Amagbein, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the lingering political feud between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Amagbein warned that unless urgent steps are taken to address the crisis, the situation could spiral out of control, with dire consequences for innocent citizens of the state.

According to him, only the direct intervention of Tinubu can restore peace and stability in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general election.

Amagbein, popularly known as Adaka Boro II, called on Wike and Fubara to set aside their differences and adopt a “father-and-son” approach in resolving the dispute.

He said such reconciliation had become imperative as political saboteurs were exploiting the crisis to advance selfish interests through what he described as diversionary politics.

The former agitator further noted that while national attention remained focused on the political tensions in Rivers State, some individuals with no genuine interest in the state’s well-being were taking advantage of the situation to enrich themselves through a divide-and-rule strategy.

“Wike and Fubara should join forces to promote President Tinubu’s 2027 agenda, and not allow crisis-mongers to destabilise Rivers State.

The political crisis in Rivers State stems from a fallout between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who is widely regarded as the political benefactor behind Fubara’s emergence as governor in 2023.

Soon after assuming office, cracks appeared in their relationship, leading to a fierce struggle for political control. The disagreement quickly spilled into the Rivers State House of Assembly, resulting in a split among lawmakers loyal to either camp, legislative tensions, and repeated political stand-offs.

The crisis has drawn national attention, given Wike’s strategic position in the Tinubu administration and Rivers State’s importance in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region. Despite several attempts by party leaders and stakeholders to broker peace, the rift has persisted, raising concerns about governance, security, and political stability in the state.
