Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed on Tuesday when a fire gutted an OPay office along Akala Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State, causing panic in the neighbourhood.
Eyewitnesses said thick smoke and flames were seen billowing from the building before an alarm was raised, prompting firefighters to respond swiftly and contain the blaze.
To salvage the situation, security personnel cordoned off the area to facilitate firefighting operations and ensure public safety. Preliminary reports indicate that no lives were lost and no serious injuries were recorded, as staff members had evacuated the building before the fire spread.
OPay is expected to issue a statement on the incident and outline measures to sustain its services in Ibadan and across Oyo State.
