Rauf Aregbesola national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), met with Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, in Abuja.
Speculations have been rife that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) national leader is considering joining the ADC as part of a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 general election.
Report indicate that Kwankwaso has been eyeing a proposed alliance with Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra, for a joint 2027 presidential ticket.
The speculation gained traction on Sunday during the annual Kwankwasiyya Eid festival hosted by Kwankwaso in Kano, where supporters repeatedly chanted Obi’s name in the presence of the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate.
At the event, attendees, many sporting the signature red caps of the Kwankwasiyya movement, cheered Kwankwaso and Obi, who acknowledged the applause and delivered brief speeches.
Before the rally, Kwankwaso had hosted Obi; Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo; and Seriake Dickson, senator representing Bayelsa west, at his residence in Kano.
In a post shared on his X page, Kwankwaso confirmed Aregbesola’s visit on Thursday, though he did not disclose details of their discussion. “It was a pleasure to receive my dear friend, His Excellency Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State and National Secretary of the ADC, this evening at my residence in Abuja,” Kwankwaso wrote.
On the same day, Saifullahi Hassan, Kwankwaso’s media aide, said the NNPP leader also met with Kano ADC leaders, including Balarabe Rufai, the party’s national youth leader.
“NNPP National Leader, HE Sen. @KwankwasoRM, PhD, FNSE, today Thursday (26th March 2026), received the Kano State Leadership of the ADC, led by Hon. Musa Shuaibu Ungogo at his residence in Abuja,” Hassan posted.
