Bolaji Tunji, the special adviser on strategic communications and media to Bayo Adelabu, minister of power, has denied reports that his principal has resigned from his position.

On Tuesday, a letter attributed to Adelabu announced his resignation as the minister of power, citing his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo governorship election.

The letter was addressed to the Secretary of the Government of the Federation. Speaking with The Cable on Tuesday evening, Tunji said the minister has not resigned and that the viral letter did not come from the minister’s office.

“He has not resigned. That letter of resignation did not come from his office,” he said.

Asked if Adelabu will resign to join the 2027 Oyo governorship race, the spokesperson responded that “when the time comes, everything will be revealed”.

In June 2025, Adelabu met with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state to declare his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

On March 17, President Bola Tinubu directed his political appointees seeking elective positions in 2027 to resign on or before March 31.
