President Bola Tinubu discussed regional security challenges with Mahamat Déby, his Chadian counterpart, at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.
Deby is in Abuja for a working visit at Tinubu’s invitation.
Both leaders held a meeting in the company of their cabinets, photos shared by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, showed. Officials in the Nigerian delegation included Christopher Musa, minister of defence; Olufemi Oluyede, chief of defence staff; and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, minister of state, foreign affairs.
Addressing the press after the meeting, Tinubu said the leaders discussed security challenges in the region, particularly the Chad Basin.
Nigeria and Chad are members of the multinational joint task force (MJTF), a formation of regional troops mandated to bring an end to the Boko Haram insurgency. It is headquartered in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital.
