UNIJOS ASUU Suspends Strike After March Salary Payment

The Academic Staff Union of Universities at the University of Jos has suspended its strike following the payment of March 2026 salaries to lecturers.

The union had, on Wednesday, embarked on an industrial action over delays in salary payments and the non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).

In a statement issued on Friday, the UNIJOS-ASUU chairman, Jurbe Molwus, confirmed that members had begun receiving salary alerts, prompting the decision to call off the strike, although the EAA remains outstanding.

“We received information that the university administration got clearance from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation for the payment of March salary some hours after our withdrawal of service on April 8, 2026,” the statement read. Molwus noted that the union verified the payments across faculties before taking its decision.

“After careful evaluation, we have, as of this morning, confirmed the payment of our March 2026 salary, as the majority of our members have received alerts based on reports from various faculties,” he said.

It also directed members to immediately resume academic activities, including lectures, examinations, and statutory meetings, while continuing to press for the payment of the outstanding allowances.

“We sincerely hope that the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, will take proactive and necessary steps to prevent us from withdrawing our services again at the end of April and in subsequent months,” the statement added.
