Abubakar Edun, national secretary of the Ilorin Emirate Political Advisory Council (IEPAC), says President Bola Tinubu has done more for Kwara than any previous leader in the state’s history.
Edun, a retired lieutenant colonel, spoke during an interview with journalists in Ilorin, the state capital, on Wednesday.
He said Tinubu has continued to enjoy significant support across the three senatorial districts of the state, adding that the president’s candidacy would positively influence the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.
Among those listed are Abdullateefs Fagbemi, the attorney general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice; Bayo Ojulari, the group chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL); Biodun Ajiboye, director general of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO); and Nurudeen Balogun, aide-de-camp to the president.
He added that indigenes of the state had also secured appointments in agencies including the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
Edun said the APC would campaign from a position of strength if Tinubu and Saliu Mustapha, senator representing Kwara central, emerge as the party’s candidates. “This evidence is why the Ilorin Emirate Political Advisory Council found the two of them worthy of our endorsement. We are unequivocal about it, and there is no going back on it despite pressure to do otherwise,” he said.
He added that while the group is not politically aligned to any bloc, it would continue to support causes and political interests it considered beneficial to the Ilorin Emirate.
Edun also urged the APC leadership to carefully consider the calibre of candidates it fields for the elections, noting that the quality of leadership presented to voters would determine the party’s electoral fortunes in 2027.
