Tinubu Appoints Matawalle APC Campaign Security, Intelligence Deputy Director

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has been appointed as the Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence 1, of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
His appointment was approved by the presidential candidate of the ruling party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement by the Ministry of Defence, the appointment by Tinubu places Matawalle at the centre of the campaign’s security and intelligence structure, with responsibility for coordinating security arrangements for campaign activities nationwide.
The Minister of State for Defence is expected to oversee the security architecture for campaign activities, including measures to safeguard candidates, campaign officials and supporters.
According to the statement, Matawalle will also be responsible for intelligence gathering and risk assessment.
He is expected to work with relevant security agencies to identify potential threats and develop mitigation strategies for campaign operations across the country.
The former Zamfara State Governor would coordinate inter-agency and stakeholder engagements, including liaison with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, to strengthen the security framework of the campaign.
The Ministry said the appointment reflected Tinubu’s recognition of Matawalle’s record in public service, security management and political mobilisation.
