2027: APM flags off presidential campaign ahead of general election

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has formally launched its 2027 presidential campaign, with its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, set to commission the party’s campaign office in Abuja as the party begins nationwide mobilisation ahead of the election.

The campaign office, known as the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office, will serve as the national coordinating centre for the campaign of Makinde and his running mate, Lawan Daura.

The party said the campaign would be issue-based, centred on presenting Makinde’s record in public service and his proposed solutions to Nigeria’s economic, security and governance challenges.

In a statement on Saturday, APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf said Makinde had consulted political leaders, stakeholders and communities across the country ahead of the campaign and would soon unveil a comprehensive policy blueprint.

The party said insecurity would be a major component of its campaign.

APM criticised recent comments by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), that the security situation was improving, arguing that the assessment did not adequately reflect the experiences of Nigerians affected by killings, kidnappings and displacement.

The Federal Government has maintained that security forces are making progress against terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities, although it has acknowledged continuing challenges in several parts of the country.

APM, however, said the true measure of progress should be whether Nigerians in affected communities feel safer, rather than official assessments alone.

The party said Makinde would present a security blueprint alongside policies to improve economic conditions, strengthen governance and restore public confidence.

It described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to assess the Tinubu administration’s record and choose what it called a competent and accountable alternative.

APM said it was confident the Makinde/Daura ticket would gain wider support as the campaign progresses, and pledged to focus on practical solutions rather than rhetoric.
