Atiku Clears Air: New Coalition Not About Personal Ambitions

2 min read

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has debunked claims that the recently formed opposition coalition, led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is centered on the personal ambitions of top political figures, including himself, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai.

Speaking through his media adviser, Paul Ibe, in an interview with Vanguard on Sunday in Abuja, Atiku emphasized that the coalition’s true purpose is to protect Nigeria’s democracy, which he says is currently under serious threat.

“This is not an anti-Tinubu project; it is a pro-Nigerian movement. Nigerians must be the ultimate beneficiaries of this effort,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing speculation about a potential power struggle within the coalition, especially concerning the 2027 presidential ticket.

Atiku also raised concerns about the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of scheming to rig the 2027 elections. He pointed specifically to the controversial appointment of a former INEC IT director—now the APC’s national chairman—as part of what he described as “a deliberate strategy to undermine electoral integrity.”

While the political climate heats up ahead of 2027, Atiku’s message is clear: this movement, he insists, is not about individuals—it’s about restoring democratic values and giving power back to the people.
