A partially collapsed school building in Oyorokoto community, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, has left one teacher injured, sparking renewed concerns over the safety of educational facilities in the area.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at Community Primary School, Oyorokoto, while the injured teacher was reportedly teaching in class. Eyewitnesses report that a section of the dilapidated structure suddenly gave way, causing panic among the staff and pupils. According to findings by Connect Andoni, the affected school building had been in a state of disrepair for a long time.
Despite the obvious dangers, teachers continued to use the structure due to a lack of alternative classrooms and a shared commitment to ensuring that pupils in the riverine community receive basic education.
The injured teacher was said to have been driven by dedication to the community‘s educational needs, like other staff who continued to work in unsafe conditions.
