Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has hailed the passage of the Osun Electricity Market Bill into law as a major milestone in the state’s economic transformation agenda.

Reacting to the House of Assembly’s approval of the executive bill, Governor Adeleke described the new law as a strategic tool to unlock investment opportunities in the power sector and tackle the longstanding electricity supply challenges in the state.

“This bill opens new windows for investors in the power sector, especially in off-grid generation and renewable energy initiatives,” the Governor said. “It is a significant step towards diversifying our power sources and putting an end to the chronic power supply crisis in Osun.”

The Governor noted that the law provides for the creation of the Osun State Electricity Regulatory Commission, which will oversee and monitor the state’s electricity market. The commission will also handle service delivery concerns and enforce compliance from power providers.

“The regulatory commission will play a critical role in licensing power generators and ensuring customer protection. No longer will electricity consumers in Osun be subjected to unfair treatment,” Governor Adeleke emphasized.

He commended the Osun State House of Assembly, the Ministry of Energy, and all stakeholders who contributed to the bill’s drafting and consultations leading to its passage.

Governor Adeleke added that the law promotes the development of an optimal energy mix for the state, where renewable energy will complement conventional sources to ensure energy reliability and sustainability.

“Osun State is now open for business in the energy sector. We invite investors and developers to take advantage of the new legal framework to deliver power solutions to our people,” he concluded.
