Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government has launched the National Health Fellows Programme, a one-year initiative designed to catalyze transformative innovation and capacity building in Nigeria’s health sector.
The announcement was made by Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in a statement released on Tuesday. The programme is being implemented through the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp), under the ministry’s direct oversight.
Speaking at the official launch, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, invited professionals from various fields—health, technology, and social sciences—to seize the opportunity by applying for the fellowship.
“This initiative is about assembling a team of emerging leaders from diverse disciplines who can deliver innovation and transformative solutions for the health sector,” the minister noted.
According to the statement, the fellowship aims to foster leadership development and build a network of skilled professionals capable of contributing to the advancement of Nigeria’s health system. The government anticipates that participants will emerge as critical drivers of sustainable development within the sector.
The application deadline for the programme has been set for 27 January 2025, with eligible Nigerians urged to submit their entries promptly.
The launch of this initiative underscores the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening the health sector and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration to achieve long-term improvements.
