Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has issued an alert regarding a confirmed outbreak of anthrax in Zamfara State.

In a statement released yesterday, Ben Bem Goong, Director of the Information and Public Relations Department, confirmed the development and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and adopt proactive measures to curb the spread of the disease.

“The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development wishes to officially notify the public of a confirmed outbreak of anthrax on a farm in Zamfara State,” the statement read.

Anthrax, a zoonotic disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis, poses a significant threat to both animals and humans. The disease can affect a range of warm-blooded animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and wildlife, and may also spread to humans.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance and preventive actions to reduce risks associated with the outbreak.
