The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the withdrawal of 11,566 police officers previously attached to Very Important Personalities across the country.
Speaking during a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja on Thursday, Egbetokun said the move followed a presidential directive mandating the recall of officers deployed for personal protection duties. He added that the instruction has given him full authority to enforce the order without resistance.
According to the police chief, no VIP is expected to oppose the withdrawal as the directive originated from the President. He urged personnel to remain focused on their core responsibility of securing the nation, stressing the need for continuous and proactive operations to curb criminal activities.
Egbetokun reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to tackle current security challenges, noting that the force is working closely with other security agencies to strengthen national safety and public protection.
