Adebayo Adedamola has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2026 Osun election.
Adedamola secured 919 of the 957 valid votes in the primary conducted in Osogbo on Tuesday.
Announcing the outcome, the chairman of the primary, Humphrey Abba, said, “Void votes 20. We told you earlier that one of the aspirants withdrew.
“The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned.”
The Secretary of the Committee overseeing the exercise, Sunday Solarin, declared voting open shortly after delegates completed accreditation around 11:35 a.m.
Solarin said Adeleke and Adebayo Adedamola were the two aspirants on the ballot, adding that Adeleke had already resigned from the party.
He also explained that any votes cast for Adeleke would “eventually amount to waste,” urging delegates to follow the guidelines for voting.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a committee led by Humphrey Abba from the PDP national headquarters monitored the exercise.
Security operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS), the police and the Nigeria Security and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were stationed at the entrance and exit of the venue.
Proceedings formally began at 11:07 a.m., with delegates checking their names before casting their votes.
