DHQ Questions Soldiers Over Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Abduction

The Defence Headquarters has summoned all military personnel previously stationed at Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State, for questioning over their withdrawal shortly before terrorists abducted 26 students.

According to senior government and security sources, the personnel were ordered to report to Abuja after outrage over why they left despite prior intelligence warnings about a likely attack. Governor Nasir Idris and community leaders have demanded answers, noting that the withdrawal happened less than an hour before the terrorists arrived, leaving only police officers, who reportedly avoided confrontation due to being outnumbered.

The November 17 attack led to the killing of the school’s vice principal, while 26 students were taken—two later escaped. Residents said the bandits operated for nearly two hours without resistance because the army was absent. Meanwhile, the Federal Government later negotiated the release of the remaining 24 students, with medical reports indicating no signs of sexual assault during captivity.

Military officials have confirmed the interrogation process and say the investigation is ongoing to determine who gave the withdrawal order and whether negligence or misconduct was involved. Authorities have assured that any personnel found culpable will face disciplinary action as the probe continues.
