A recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that one out of every four Nigerians aged 15 and above is inclined to leave their community, either permanently or temporarily. The findings were detailed in the General Household Survey-Panel (GHS-Panel) Wave 5 for 2023/2024.
The report highlights a gender disparity, with 31.2% of men expressing a desire to migrate compared to 19.3% of women. Age-wise, the highest percentage of individuals interested in migration falls between 20 and 30 years, accounting for 34.5% of respondents. This group is followed by adolescents aged 15 to 18 at 26.9%, and adults aged 31 to 64 at 25%.
The survey underscores the growing interest among Nigerians, particularly the youth, in seeking opportunities outside their immediate communities.
