The National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by VP Kashim Shettima, has approved new measures to strengthen polio vaccination, with coverage rising from 81% to 84%.
Gombe Governor Inuwa Yahaya said polio cases dropped from 78 in 2024 to 42 so far this year, with major reductions in Kano and Katsina, while Sokoto accounted for over half of the current cases. New immunisation drives are set for September 11–14 in high-risk states and a nationwide campaign in October for children under 14.
NEC also endorsed the Renewed Hope Medium-Term Plan (2026–2030), a bridge to Nigeria Agenda 2050, focusing on jobs, infrastructure, food security, and social protection.
