The Sultanate Council in Sokoto has called on the Muslim faithful across the country to look out for the new moon of Jumadal Ula 1447 AH on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, which corresponds to the 29th day of Rabi’ul Assani 1447 AH.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto on Monday.
According to the statement, “Muslims are enjoined to begin the search for the new moon on Tuesday evening and report any sighting to the nearest district or village head.
“Such reports, should be communicated to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).
“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Jumadal Ula 1447 AH on Tuesday and report its sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement read. Junaidu prayed for God’s guidance and assistance in the discharge of this important religious duty.
“May Allah (SWT) help us in the discharge of this religious duty, amen,” he added.The sighting of the new moon of Jumadal Ula marks the beginning of a new Islamic lunar month, which is used to determine various religious observances in the Muslim calendar.
