São Paulo, Brazil — Brazilian superstar Neymar is reportedly on the verge of rejoining his former club Santos, sources revealed on Sunday.
The forward, currently signed to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, has been sidelined after head coach Jorge Jesus stated earlier this month that Neymar “can no longer perform at the level we are accustomed to.” Neymar was not registered for the Saudi Pro League, restricting his play to the Asian Champions League.
Negotiations with Al Hilal Underway
With limited opportunities in Saudi Arabia, Neymar has been exploring other options and appears set for a return to Santos, where his professional career began. Sources indicate that his contract with Al Hilal will likely be terminated, though final negotiations are still in progress.
Discussions between Neymar’s representatives and Al Hilal are expected to take place this week, aiming to finalize an agreement. If successful, Neymar is poised to sign a six-month deal with Santos, with the possibility of extending it for an additional year.
Should the deal materialize, Neymar is expected to travel to Brazil this week and could make his debut for Santos as early as February 5.
By terminating his Al Hilal contract, which was set to run through this summer, Neymar would forfeit approximately $65 million in earnings. However, sources suggest he could recover some of the financial loss by partnering with his father, Neymar Santos Sr., to invest in a fund that includes shares in Santos.
Despite this potential arrangement, ESPN Brazil reports that Neymar is determined to recoup the money owed by Al Hilal. Moreover, implementing a share-based deal with Santos is expected to be challenging in the short term.
Fans are now eagerly awaiting official confirmation of Neymar’s return to the club that launched his iconic career.
