The Nigerian Rugby League has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of three key officials, setting a strategic direction aimed at advancing the sport’s development both locally and internationally.
On Thursday, the league announced Nosakhare Agwoje as the new Director of Rugby. A former national player with a rich background in the sport, Agwoje is known for his dedication to rugby’s growth in Nigeria and Africa. His vision emphasizes empowering local talent, enhancing grassroots initiatives, and creating competitive opportunities for Nigerian players on the global stage. Agwoje’s approach is expected to lay the groundwork for sustained success and broaden the sport’s appeal across the continent.
Adding expertise to the team, Mozez Praiz has been appointed Strategic Media Director for the Nigeria Rugby League Association. Praiz, a seasoned professional in media strategy, is anticipated to invigorate the league’s media presence and engagement, helping to attract new fans and elevate the sport’s profile in Nigeria. His strategic vision aligns with the Association’s goals of expanding rugby’s reach through effective media partnerships and dynamic storytelling.
Rounding out the appointments is Okeke Oluwaseyi Chika, who takes on the role of Sales and Marketing Officer. Chika will spearhead efforts to enhance the league’s brand visibility and drive sponsorships, a key component in securing the financial support needed to sustain growth and increase access to rugby nationwide.
Established in 2018, the Nigeria Rugby League serves as the official governing body for rugby league football in Nigeria. It was founded by Ade Adebisi, a former professional rugby league player who currently holds the roles of Vice President and General Manager. Under the leadership of Chairman Abiodun Olawale-Cole, the organization has been instrumental in shaping the sport’s trajectory within the country. In recognition of these efforts, the Nigeria Rugby League was granted observer membership in the Rugby League European Federation, a significant step following the dissolution of a previous, inactive governing body.
Since its inaugural season in 2019, the league has worked to forge international partnerships, with some local clubs establishing affiliations with teams in the professional Super League. This alignment with international clubs aims to provide Nigerian players with exposure to elite-level training and competition, further positioning Nigeria as a rising force in rugby league.
With these new appointments, the Nigerian Rugby League aims to build on its achievements, advancing rugby from the grassroots to the professional level and creating a pathway for Nigeria to compete on the world stage.
