NSCDC Officer Stabbed to Death in Abuja Amid Hospital Negligence

2 min read

Tragedy struck in Piawe, Bwari area of Abuja, as a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akpan Blessing, was stabbed and later died after hospitals allegedly refused to treat her without a police report.

The attack occurred in front of her home early Tuesday morning. According to friends, Blessing was rushed to several hospitals — including Gabriel Hospital and St. Theresa Hospital — but was denied treatment despite showing her official NSCDC ID.

“She was dying, and they insisted on a police report before treatment,” a friend recounted. “We kept moving her around until she finally passed.”

Reports suggest the stabbing happened during a robbery attempt. After losing a large amount of blood, Blessing was taken to Bwari General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

The FCT Police said the case wasn’t officially reported to them, while NSCDC spokespersons referred inquiries to the FCT Command, which has not yet responded.

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has condemned the hospitals’ actions, describing them as a violation of the Gunshot Act of 2017, which mandates immediate care for victims of violence without requiring a police report.

This tragic case again highlights the deadly consequences of outdated and illegal practices in the Nigerian healthcare system.
