The Ondo State Government has prohibited the illegal collection of money in public secondary schools as preparations begin for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, announced the directive during a meeting with principals from the 18 local government areas and leaders of education unions.
He commended principals for their efforts in managing schools but urged them to embrace the government’s reforms aimed at improving the education sector.
Prof. Ajibefun warned that no school should demand money from students without the ministry’s approval. “We have received reports of schools collecting unapproved levies. It is now unlawful for any school to collect any amount without approval; serious sanctions will follow,” he declared.
He also revealed that student admissions would now be migrated to a digital platform to enable proper supervision by the ministry.
The commissioner stressed that the government would not condone lateness, cultism, unruly behaviour, vandalism, or invasion of schools by hoodlums.
He expressed confidence that the new measures would strengthen discipline, accountability, and transparency in school administration across the state.
