Less than 24 hours after six lives were lost in a fatal accident along the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway, another tragedy occurred on Ikorodu Road yesterday, claiming one life and leaving several others injured.
The crash happened at Idi-Iroko, inward Ogolonto, when a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus (LND 490 SD), trying to outmaneuver traffic from the Agric axis, rammed into a fast-moving articulated truck (EKY 121 YJ).
A passenger seated at the doorway of the bus was flung out by the impact and crushed under the truck’s rear tyres. Two others sustained severe injuries, while several passengers were injured in the ensuing chaos.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that operatives rescued the victims before they were taken by LASAMBUS to Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment.
He said the deceased’s remains were handed over to the family by police officers, while personnel from Owutu Police Division provided security during the rescue operation.
