Former lawmaker, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has officially informed the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election, promising to usher in an era of economic and infrastructural renaissance.
Speaking at the APC State Secretariat in Osogbo, Omoworare, who represented Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said governance should go beyond daily survival and focus on delivering essential services and infrastructure that drive economic growth.
Describing himself as a “five-star general” in politics, he noted that he had contested five elections without suffering a single defeat. Omoworare, a lawyer and former Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, said he is well-prepared to lead the state.
He proudly identified himself as a direct political disciple of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying, “I am a proud alumnus of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu school of politics, Bourdillon campus. I learnt directly from him. I will win the election.”
Highlighting his political lineage, he recalled that his grandfather was the first governor of the Western Region, while his sister served as Nigeria’s first female Deputy Speaker. He reaffirmed his commitment to progressive ideals and the APC’s leadership.
Omoworare cited recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicating that Osun has the highest food inflation in the Southwest. He pledged to fix rural roads to ease food transportation and reduce post-harvest losses, ensuring affordability and access.
On the political landscape, he maintained that the APC remains dominant in Osun. “In Osun, there are two parties — APC and PDP. Others can try, but APC will win. I’m not just thinking, I’m convinced,” he said.
