The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs has approved the ambassadorial nominations of two former ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode and Abdulrahman Dambazau. Both nominees had previously undergone full Senate screening during their ministerial confirmations in past administrations, prompting a smoother process this time.
During Thursday’s session, the nominees—alongside other former ministers, ambassadors and lawmakers—were asked to “take a bow and leave,” a long-standing Senate tradition accorded to individuals with extensive public service records. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defended the practice, noting that it applies to nominees whose profiles and contributions are already well established.
Bamidele added that anyone who has served in the National Assembly automatically qualifies for the privilege, as their legislative history is familiar to lawmakers. The nominees now await final confirmation by the full Senate.
