1 min read

Governments across the South-West have declared (Wednesday) a public holiday to celebrate this year’s Isese Festival, a day dedicated to honouring Yoruba culture, spirituality, and traditions. Work resumes on Thursday, August 21.

In Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun, through his aide Kayode Akinmade, recalled that the holiday was formally recognised in 2023, describing Isese Day as a chance to honour ancestors, preserve values, and showcase Yoruba heritage.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, urged residents to use the day for reflection and prayers for peace, unity, and stability in both the state and the nation.

In Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke felicitated traditional worshippers, pledging his administration’s commitment to recognising and celebrating cultural heritage, while urging peaceful celebrations.

Now widely observed across South-West states, Isese Day has grown into a symbol of Yoruba pride and inclusivity, with calls mounting for its adoption nationwide.
