President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari extended warm congratulations to Pastor Tunde Bakare on his 70th birthday, celebrated on November 11, 2024. Bakare, a distinguished lawyer, pastor, author, and advocate for good governance, has made significant contributions to Nigeria through his roles in leadership, public service, and religious life. He is the founder of The Latter Rain Assembly, now known as The Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC).

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Pastor Bakare’s tireless work in advocating for a more just and equitable Nigeria. Tinubu noted the pastor’s deep commitment to national improvement, acknowledging his efforts as a religious leader and as a prominent voice for social change. Highlighting Bakare’s involvement with the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), Tinubu praised his leadership during pivotal civil demonstrations that aimed to uphold democracy and social justice in critical times for the nation.

President Tinubu further lauded Pastor Bakare’s unwavering dedication to society’s betterment, calling him a highly influential figure whose voice has significantly shaped the nation’s discourse. Tinubu joined Pastor Bakare’s family, friends, and the Christian community in celebrating his impact and dedication to Nigeria’s progress.

Former President Buhari, in his message conveyed by media aide Garba Shehu, also honored Bakare, describing him as a “gadfly” who has held the powerful to account while championing social justice. Buhari noted Bakare’s courageous decision to leave a successful legal career to dedicate himself to pastoral and public service, calling him a symbol of intellect, integrity, and courage.

Buhari recognized Pastor Bakare as a committed advocate of democratic values who consistently speaks out against injustice. “He is a man deeply committed to democratic principles and unafraid to address injustices wherever they may appear,” Buhari stated.

In his closing remarks, Buhari prayed for Bakare’s continued health and longevity, hoping he would see a Nigeria where marginalized groups are empowered.
