Uneasy calm in Osun PDP over Adeleke’s ‘insistence’ on joining APC

2 min read

There is an uneasy calm within the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State over the rumoured ‘insistence’ of Governor Ademola Adeleke in decamping to the opposition All Progressives Congress.

Rumours swelled up last week that the governor is once again lobbying to move to the APC, with information in some quarters saying Adeleke has already conceded defeat in the forthcoming gubernatorial election and he’s ready to accept the Senatorial ticket of the APC.

Speaking in a chieftain of the PDP in Osun who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the latest development has left a lot of members of the party in limbo.

The PDP chieftain said even though he still believes Adeleke will not move to the APC, the continued rumours of his romance with the opposition have left members of the party confused. The party chieftain also said Adeleke would disappoint a lot of PDP members if he moves to the APC, adding that moving to the opposition party would only mean that the governor is after his selfish interests.

He said, “We’ve heard again that Governor Adeleke is still planning to move to the APC. I hope that is not true, but I want to tell you that the development is causing a lot of issues within the party.

“Members are in limbo because they don’t really know what is happening, and the rumour keeps coming up.

“Some of our party members have been calling me to ask if, truly, the Governor is moving and has already decided to accept the Senatorial ticket of the APC. This is a big situation, and I feel the governor needs to address this with all sincerity.

“If he feels he wants to move, he should go. Even though he will be disappointing a lot of party members and Osun people with that move, his position will let us know where we are as a party and how to forge ahead.”
