“We have not received that money. They haven’t paid. Hopefully, they will pay. Please, they have not paid all the promises you heard back and forth,” Ajibade said.

The Atletico Madrid star, known for her iconic blue braids and attacking prowess, lamented that the team was still waiting for their bonuses and allowances months after the presidential pledge was made with much fanfare.

“Honestly, like share giving percentage and everything… People are begging. We have not received it. When they pay it, you will see. You will see. Our match bonuses and everything are a work in progress. We have not received anything yet,” she added.

In July, Tinubu approved a cash award of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each of the 24 players and $50,000 equivalent to each technical team member for winning the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Tinubu also conferred national honours on all 24 players and the 11-member technical team of Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team. Each player and technical crew member is also to receive a 3-bedroom flat. In a statement released by the State House, President Tinubu described the team’s performance during the tournament as “awe-inspiring” and a true reflection of national pride and strength.

The President particularly commended the team’s act of compassion following their semi-final win over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, where players visited an injured opponent, Gabriela Salgado.

The female football team came from behind to defeat Morocco 3-2 in the final. In a similar gesture, Tinubu announced the conferring of national honours on all members of the D’Tigress for also winning the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket.

Tinubu also pledged $100,000 (N152million) to each of the players and an additional $50,000 to members of the technical crew.
